Stripe Rust Concerns

06/12/2025
Stripe Rust Concerns
Stripe rust is officially in Lambton County. I have attached 2 pictures of fields (one as the thumbnail, and one as the detail image) with varying degrees of stripe rust. Both should be sprayed. If you see a small amount of damage, the actual impact on your crop may be ten times greater. One of the reasons stripe rust is so dangerous is because of its short life cycle. It can complete a cycle in just five days, which means it can spread very quickly through a field. The disease reduces photosynthetic material on the wheat leaves, especially if the disease reaches the flag leaf, and can cause up to 50% yield loss.
T3 sprays like Miravis Ace and Prosaro Pro provide protection against leaf diseases, but if you opted not to spray a T3 fungicide... GET OUT AND SCOUT! If you're not sure if it is stripe rust, rub your finger on a potential concern area of the leaf, and see if you get a yellow/orange residue.
If you have concerns about any of your fields, talk to your agronomist about spray options. The T3 window for fungicide protection has passed, but there are still options for spraying stripe rust and stopping the spread. Megan and Floyd are also out on their wheat tour now, and are more than happy to stop by your field with you and take a look!
