Invest with Wanstead Farmers Co-operative

The Wanstead Co-op was established by its member/owners in 1924. During its formation investments were made by members to fund the start of the co-operative. Since then the co-op has offered investment opportunities that have a greater yield than Guaranteed Interest Certificates or bank savings accounts.

The co-op funds itself through three different mechanisms

  1. Profits it generates.
  2. Loans from commercial lenders.
  3. Members and others who invest in the company in the form of debentures.

Investment opportunities

The table that follows outlines the current investment opportunities and the rates that the co-op offers:

Term Interest Rate
1 year 2.00%
2 years 3.00%
3 years 3.00%
4 years 3.00%
5 years 3.50%

* Rates effective January 25, 2021. * Subject to change without notice.

Investments may be purchased either by members of the Co-operative or non-members. Membership is not a requirement to invest.

These investments are "unsecured" and are long-term investments that are issued for 1 to 5-year terms. Interest is paid annually on August 31.

Upon the initial investment, a confirmation statement is mailed to the investor, followed by an annual statement of investments on August 31.

The minimum investment to be invested by an individual is $100 and the maximum amount is $400,000.
