Job description

WANSTEAD FARMERS CO-OPERATIVE is looking for multiple candidates to join our team as yard staff/operators at both the Wanstead and Alvinston branches. The position, involves keeping the elevator, and yard moving efficiently by filling the needs presented by our growers. These day to day requirements change in each season. The Yard Person is also required to quickly adjust to changing situations, and conditions.  Safety of staff, and growers is key in ever day operations.  All health and Safety policies are always expected to be observed and followed. 

Duties include

• Loading bays with incoming product, being able to efficiently use limited space to maximum capacities
• Loading both tender trucks, and spreader wagons using the loader and blender.  
• Blender maintenance including greasing, and upkeep of conveyor, as well as site cleanup for fallen product
• Delivery of fertilizer, and spreader wagons to grower, which includes setting spreaders, assisting with break downs when needed
• Thorough record keeping regarding completed blends, as well as deliveries
• Responsible for the receiving and storage of all grain delivered throughout the harvest seasons
• Monitoring grain drying process – at high times requires long hours of monitoring moistures, and quality of finished product.
• High level of communication needed to adapt to unforeseen circumstances

Requirements for the position

• Physical activity required including loading/unloading trucks.
• Ability to work weekends and evenings when necessary.
• An agricultural background is preferred but not necessary.
• Capacity to work outdoors in various weather conditions
