December 16th - Morning Market Commentary

Grains are mixed in overnight trading:

Mar Corn + 1 cent/bu (5.86 ¾ )

Jan Soybeans + 12 ½  cents/bu (12.75 )

Mar Chi Wheat – 3 cents/bu (7.53)

Cdn $ +0.00525 (78.23 cents)

WTI Crude Oil +0.33/barrel (71.20)

Grains started the overnight session strongly, with corn up 4 cents/bu, wheat up 7 cents/bu, and soybeans up 12 cents/bu, but only soybeans have been able to maintain that strength into the morning.  Outside markets are very strong, with all commodities trading higher this morning, and USA equities firm with Dow futures up a couple hundred points.

Of course, there is a lot of uncertainty in markets at the moment, with COVID fears leading overall market concerns.  The USA Federal Reserve yesterday left interest rates unchanged, but did indicate that their projected 3 rate increases for 2022 would likely come earlier than previously forecast as the Fed tries to get a handle on rampant price inflation.

USDA will release their Weekly Export Sales later this morning, which will give the market further trading direction.
