December 20th - Morning Market Commentary

Grains are lower in overnight trading:

Mar Corn – 3 cents/bu (5.90 ¼ )

Jan Soybeans – 1 ¼ cents/bu (12.84 )

Mar Chi Wheat -11 cents/bu (7.64)

Cdn $ -0.00305 (77.35 cents)

WTI Crude Oil -3.43/barrel (67.43)

Grains started the evening session trading higher, but have since fallen back into negative territory.  While grain fundamentals have improved through the first half of December, due to robust domestic demand and due to some drying out of soils in southern Brazil and eastern Argentina, this morning outside markets are very weak.  Equities and commodities are lower in overnight trading as fears build that tighter curbs being implemented to combat the Omicron COVID variants spread will diminish economic activity and demand for goods and services.  US Dos futures are 400 points lower at the moment (34,853).  Grains are actually performing very well this morning in relation to other markets.

Over the weekend, Argentina was mostly dry with the exception of showers in the southwest.  Argentina will get some rains to end this week, before resuming dryness to close out 2021.  Brazil saw showers in the north again this weekend, but the south was dry, and is forecast to remain that way for the next 10 days.
